How to file a foster care complaint
If something is unsafe, unfair or not being handled, you can report it. An ombudsman, child advocate or state complaint office can review concerns about foster care services.
If you are in danger right now
Call 911. If you might hurt yourself or need immediate emotional support, call or text 988. You can also use the crisis page to find more help.

1. Tell someone
Start with your caseworker. If the concern is about that person or nothing changes, ask for their supervisor.
2. Write down what happened
Save dates, names, messages and what you asked for. Keep copies somewhere safe if you can.
3. Escalate the concern
If it is not resolved locally, contact your state foster care program manager, ombudsman or child advocate.
4. Ask what happens next
Ask for a complaint number, expected response time and appeal or review steps. Keep the written response.
