HELP FOSTER YOUTH
Accessibility Statement
Help Foster Youth is committed to making this website usable by everyone, including people with disabilities. Many of the young people and families this site serves live with disabilities, and access matters to us.
The standard we follow
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, motor and cognitive disabilities.
What we do to keep the site accessible
- Text and background colors are chosen to meet contrast guidelines.
- The site can be navigated with a keyboard, without a mouse.
- Pages use proper headings and landmarks so screen readers can move through them.
- Images that carry meaning include alternative text; decorative images are marked so screen readers skip them.
- Buttons and form fields have labels that assistive technology can read.
- Text can be enlarged with your browser’s zoom without breaking the layout.
- The site works on phones, tablets and computers, in portrait or landscape.
- We avoid flashing or blinking content.
- An accessibility button (bottom-left corner of every page) lets you enlarge text, switch to high contrast, use an easy-to-read font, underline links and stop movement. Your choices are saved on your own device only and are never sent to us.
Most recent review
On October 2, 2026 we tested the site’s main pages against WCAG 2.1 AA with automated accessibility checks and a keyboard walkthrough, and fixed what we found (a color-contrast issue, a heading-order issue and a map label). We plan to review the site again at least once a year and whenever major features are added.
Compatibility
This site is designed to work with current versions of major browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge) and with common assistive technologies such as screen readers, screen magnifiers and voice-control software.
Known limitations
Some content comes from outside services we do not control — for example, the Shopify checkout used for Gift of Hope purchases and the websites of organizations we link to. Their accessibility is governed by their own policies. Within our own pages, we review new features for accessibility before they go live, but some older content may not yet meet every guideline. We are working through it.
Tell us about a barrier
If you have trouble using any part of this site, or you find a page that does not work with your assistive technology, we want to know. Email us at info@helpfosteryouth.org or use our Contact Us form and tell us which page caused trouble and what happened. We will do our best to fix the problem and to get you the information another way in the meantime.
Changes to this statement
We will update this page as we improve the site’s accessibility. The effective date at the top shows when this version took effect.
