A church does not need its own foster-care ministry to make a difference. Most foster families don't stop because they stopped caring. They stop because they were alone. A congregation is already built for exactly what they need: meals, rides, hands, patience and people who keep showing up. You don't need a program to begin — you need a few families willing to surround one.

Where churches start

  • Support foster families

    Build a small care team around one family — encouragement, babysitting, a listening ear — so they can keep saying yes.

  • Mentor young adults

    Pair steady adults with youth aging out of care, for the years when most people quietly disappear from their lives.

  • Provide meals

    A placement can arrive with two hours' notice. A meal train the first two weeks changes everything about that week.

  • Provide transportation

    Rides to visits, therapy, practice and work — often the single biggest logistical barrier for a caregiver.

  • Furnish first apartments

    A bed, a table, pots and towels. One Saturday from your congregation becomes someone's first real home.

  • Offer jobs

    Business owners in your pews can hold a first paid job or internship with a supervisor willing to coach.

  • Celebrate milestones

    Birthdays, adoption days, graduations, driver's licenses. Be the people who show up with cake and a camera.

  • Provide consistent community

    Not a one-time drive — a family that keeps calling. Consistency is the rarest gift a young person in care receives.
